Third-person single-player horror RPG
The Chant is a horror-inspired role-playing game that takes place within a world of malevolent spirits and powerful demons. As it boasts a unique third-person perspective and masterfully crafted cutscenes, this platform is suited for fans of mystery and intrigue.
Although the role-playing aspects of The Chant are somewhat similar to those associated with games like Outer Wilds, decidedly darker settings and a decision-based storyline provide an additional sense of depth to the end-user experience.
An innocent ritual gone wrong
The Chant involves a series of characters on a remote island who have decided to perform an incantation ritual. Unfortunately, things do not go as planned. They inadvertently release a demonic presence known as "The Gloom." Players will soon find themselves trapped in an alternate dimension that feeds off of negative energy.
Disturbing levels of interaction
Players will regularly communicate with other NPCs that are slowly being consumed by insanity. However, it is necessary to interact with these individuals in order to discover the mysteries of the island and (hopefully) emerge unscathed.
Movie-like choreography
One unique aspect of The Chant involves the fact that real-world actors were cast for the starring roles. Through the use of green screens, as well as cutting-edge technology, this game feels more like a film rather than a simple game.
Inspired by psychedelic experiences
The developers of The Chant partially drew on the psychedelic experiments associated with the 1907s for their inspiration. Therefore, this game represents a combination of nail-biting horror and the immersive RPG elements associated with classic games, including System Shock 2. When stunning graphics and an entertaining plot are taken into account, The Chant represents the next generation of role-playing games.
